legal seatbelts and mot's
are there specific things an mot inspector will look for in a seat belt. i am still on the hunt for racing green ones to match the body colour and
all i could find were these

do you want to rely on something that may not be up to the job if there was a crash? fine to stop you falling out a buggy rolling over, but a motorway
crash for example, er naw mate.
did you try Prima motorsport as i suggested before? they'll make the belts to the spec you need. not sure if they have BRG though, but ask them!

They look ok to me they have the correct buckle with the red button the only thing is it doesn't look as if it has a BS tag
just had a look again and there are lots of rules and regulations at the bottom of the page

yeah i have emailed them and still waiting on a reply, will email again.
half of me thinks they will be fine, the other half not so sure but then if i did have an accident on the motorway etc, what are the chances of not
loosinf my head anyway?

weird, when i contacted them last year they were back to me straight away!
you're right, a motorway crash is coing to be be pretty hopeless with or without belts, but you see what i'm meaning. i wouldn't be
happy with them in my car.

If for any reason you dont want a seat belt to be tested, fit a childs car seat (obviously thats no good for the drivers seat!). Last mot i had, the
cert said 'not tested due to child seat fitted'.

Joel, your MOT guy was wrong. If child seats are fitted, he should have refused to test the car until you removed them. Same goes for if the rear
seats are folded down as they have to be upright and secure when presented for test.

I would want the belt that holds in my child's seat tested otherwise I'd be as well sitting the child in the adult seat without a
belt..... Should be an extra test to ensure seat complies and is safe.!
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

I have been in my mot place, when the tester made the customer take out the child seat, so he can test the belts etc

Seat belts and child seats:
Child seat(s) retained by seat belt(s) must not be removed. A visual examination is required of only those parts of the seat belt(s) which are readily
accessible.
However, if you cannot clearly inspect the anchorage points because of the child seats (unless the anchor points are an integral part of the seat)
then that is a reason to refuse the MOT.
As instructed at a recent MOT refresher course!

page 5.2 of the online mot manual seat belt condition
This inspection applies to all seat belts fitted including child seats/restraints etc. However the reasons for rejection should only be applied to
those permanently attached to the vehicle ie secured by using Isofix mountings or nuts, bolt etc. Presenters should be advised of any effects on
non-testable items
child seat(s) retained by seat belt(s) must not be removed. A visual examination is required of only those parts of the seat belt(s) which are readily
accessible
Like i have said before child seats secured with the vehicle seat belt that passes the visual inspection is a pass and advise under non component
related advisories
I also put it to you that when inspecting a vehicle that most seat belt anchoridge points are not available to inspect because they are covered up by
trims seat bases etc
The mot is the min standard not the o i dont like that so i am going to fail it regardless of what is laid down in the mot manual!!!!!!!!!!

These are the type of people that used to fail batteries for being insecure that again is not tested
It will become part of the mot test in january 2012 for the first time along with inner cv boots loose wiring etc

TRS will do there harnesses in green - not sure if it's dark enough though.
