Sit in your chassis, decide which position suits yourself, and then position the gearbox. I widened my transmission tunnel, making it narrower at the
top than at the bottom. This has given me plenty of room for the pedals.

Mine misses everything by about 10mm and the bellhousing sits well back to the battery shelf. I built the tunnel round the engine position.

Gearbox position vs. gearchange extension is a trade-off... if you move the gearbox back you lose footwell space - and I've got big feet!
Because of that I extended the shift - easy as that.
If you've got smallish or narrowish feet, then moving the gearbox back is a good move.

On a type 9 or Cortina or 2000e box the tip of the gearbox tailshaft usually is in line with chassis member B2.

I've angled the tunnel so that the footwell is narrower on the floor and wider at the top. This has resulted in there being plenty of room at
pedal height. That said, I've got diddy size 81/2's, but have plenty of room even with hiking boots on.
