Making it look urmm Nice?

I would like to keep the plastic steering column cover because i like using the indicator stalk but its so fecking ugly and reminds me of the piece of crap it came from.
Is there a way of making it look a bit nicer? what about the stalk? is there some sort of mod to change it?

I think you can buy thin cylindrical, stainless stalks to fit the sierra column if you'd prefer something like that. There used to be some under 'locost' on ebay but don't recall seeing any for a while.

I think, some time ago there was a post about using those anodised craft knive handles to mod the switch stalks. Had a quick search, but can't seem to find it, (not unusual for me) :-) Cheers Ray

To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

I had the same thought and had a go at making a 2 part ally shroud that could be painted afterwards. With my metal bashing skills/tools (minimal) it was never going to work so I re-fitted the Sierra parts and lived with it.

The other idea was to get a suitable sized tube (black drain pipe maybe) to make a single piece shroud with holes cut for the stalks. This would cover up the hazard switch and could be extended right under the dash to give a really neat enclosed look. Good for SVA too.

IIRC someone on here made a soft shroud out of some black vinyl stitched together to mimic the kind of thing you see on some tin tops with adjustable steering columns.

i dont think there is an easy solution unfortunately to get an OE finish but in a nice style. This is why some of us have junked the stalks in favour of dash mounted switches and then turned down the ali cast bit that holds the ignition switch and upper column bearing. As you say though the ergonomics arent as good as stalks.

I remember that, but cant find it either, I think it was either rayward or hellfire but probably wrong.

I keep reading about people changing the stalks and for some reason there is an alarm bell going off in the back of my mind.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the control stalks have to be marked with the relevant symbols and the ali stalks arent so would have to be a post SVA mod.

I could be wrong and my mind may be playing tricks on me but im going to be safe rather than sorry cos it'd be a nightmare to change em back

That is true for IVA, but not SVA. At least it's my understanding that they introduced this as a new requirement. Certainly something to be aware of for the future.
