Sierra boss

went to fit my momo wheel today and it seems i have the wrong boss ( although it is marked with the proper sticker)
So it's a column ( adjustable 92 plate) from a sierra. the boss is a momo unit of supposedly the correct design and part no bought a long while back.
Momo do not list another boss for this car even the cossies are the same part no. so it's either not machined correctly or not the right part or not labeled properly.
It's 0.5mm to big across the flats of the hex for a start and the taper at the end stops abruptely at the end (unlike the shaftl).
A couple of other suppliers ( ector) and another (sparco i think) list 2 differing bosses for the sierras and there is quite a price difference as well. I emailed an (Info @ whatever.etc) but as you all know they never get back to you ( well 90% don't). And I do not want to waste any more dosh getting another one that doesn't fit.
Anyone else come across this??

My sierra donor came with a mono wheel but I decided not to use it because the boss didn't seem to fit properly -the flats felt like they were just a little too far apart and meant there was quite a lot of play on the wheel (non adjustable column btw)

I thought it might have just been wear but sounds like it might be the same problem you have. I think that's pretty poor if it is badly designed because their stuff is not exactly cheap!

Got a Momo collapsible boss fitted on mine with no problems.

That aint much help to you though....





If its broke, fix it. If it aint broke, take it apart and find out how it works!

Hi

If it's only 0.5mm out can you not use strips of steel shim to take up the slack? If bent over at each end there would be no danger of them falling out, (araldite them to the boss if you like). Feeler gauges are an ideal supply of shim steel

Possibly Mick but it seems to go tight and bottom out on the boss before the slack is taken up in the tapered section ( if you see what I mean) I'd estimate 10 to 15 degrees of play at the steering wheel rim

Hi

Shimming will more than likely remove the play ........ you need to shim along the flats not across them .. if that makes sense, ie you need to shim the tapered section also.
