Which Gauges... ???

Morning all!

The car I have came with only an RPM and Oil Pressure Gauge... I would like to have a bit more!

It's a 2.0XE engine on Weber 45's and MBE management.

I was looking at a set of re-furbished Smiths electrical gauges... a sensible buy? Or would I be better going for mechanical gauges?

I'll be having:

Speedo
Tacho
Oil Pressure
Oil Temp
Water Temp
Fuel

I thought you'd be after some kind of all in one digi-dash ?

Electronic guages all the way. Mechanincal speedos etc are far too much hassle.

I have separate electronic guages, but I would go for an all in one if doing it again - the wiring is easier to make tidy, and you could set it up with one big connector in case you need to remove the dash.

i prefer seperate gauges, that way you just to glance at them rather than trying to read numbers on a digital display but do get electric ones

Nah... it's an 'old-skool-rules' kind of car.

I think this is what I would go for if/when I built another seven:

Would this set be any use?

120mph and 7k rpm is fine with me if the dials would work in my set-up!

PS - I've never 'fiddled' with any clocks that were anything other than a 'plugnplay' type, so all help gratefully received!

Ask about senders for fuel and water temp gauges.

Electrical (non - capillary ) oil pressure is much easier.

I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

I think etb do a set for a 7 type car for about £250 all in & delivered if that helps, black or white dials with black or chrome surrounds, looks to be about the best value i have seen for brand new ones.

I think they come with the sender unit too for that price.

Thanks Andy... just been looking at their site. Seems good value... have you any idea how reliable they are?

I got a gauge made by them to match the others in my Marlin that i sold a couple of years ago and they were great to deal with, and it was a spot on match.

I cant find the 'set' of dials price on their website but its definately in the kitcar magazines on regular occasions.

Im going to get a set from them when i get to the interior build of my car, only thing is i think the speedo in the 'set' is mechanical but thats fine by me, some prefer the electronic ones.

Just for reference, I plan on putting in a digidash2, and getting rid of at least 30 wires that I need now for electronic gauges and lights that barely work, if at all. That is a big cleanup.
