Carbon dash moulded with bottom radius?
I am on the lookout for a carbon or carbon finished dash that is moulded with the radius for the bottom edge built in. I'm sure I've seen
this on a tiger at stafford and def on a caterham on friday at goodwood, but does anyone know if this is available for a book locost type scuttle?
If not I can see a huge gap in the market!
Anyone know if the tiger dash would fit a book scuttle. I think it was a tiger cat that I saw at Stafford..

Mangogroove,
Thanks for the link, I hadn't come across those people before, however the dash is only carbon effect plastic. I'm really after real
carbon. I'm not worried if it's a wet layup as it isn't structural, but I'd like it too look right !
I've emailed plays-kool to see if they can help.
Anyone go any other suggestions?
cheers,
Ned.

Ned,
there's a Carbon one available for the Avon. I might have a picture of the dimensions in the Tiger book

Northy,
Dimensions would be great when you get the chance. Any idea if it is moulded with the lower radius for sva?
I'll try their website...
cheers,
Ned.

The orange Tiger Avon demo-car indeed has a carbon dash with radiused lower edge. Looks great! Looking in the book; the width of the chassis is 1020
mm (or is it 1045 mm; book is not clear in this drawing!). So I guess that's the width of the dash also.

Carbon Dash
Ned,
Try this link, they can provide dashboards, dash blanks and carbon fibre in sheets, at different thicknesses.

I was under the impression that the dash now needs to have "some" impact absorbing properties for the SVA now, hope not cos I do like the
GTS ones

Right, that's tiger out the window.
First of all they didn't know what i was after when i asked them about the carbon dash, 'the bit the dials go in?' is a direct
quote.
They then went on to say that it probably wouldn't fit my car.
They then went on to say that as I was building a locost and not one of their cars that it definately wouldn't fit as the whole shape would be
completely different. (how? I could appreciate the width might be different)
I asked if they could tell me the width of either the dash or their scuttle, but they didn't know and weren't prepared to find out for me
either.
They then told me as I wasn't building a tiger that although they do supply some parts that would fit, wouldn't sell me a dash anyway as
it was specific to their cars.
BIG thumbs down to tiger, what a useless bunch of people.
I haven't heard back from plays-kool yet, Darren (GTS) has been extremely helpful (and the quickest to reply!) and has offered to make me up a
standard dash with a carbon layer on top.
Ned.
EDIT:
From searching previous posts it appears that stuart-taylor do a carbon dash with radiused bottom edge. It's listed at £60 on their website..

Interesting to hear your comments re: tiger.
Just to update you lot I've now had a reply from plays-kool who say they have problems with supply and can't do any carbon for a least 8
weeks...

I did my own carbon dash with a 19mm radius.
Make an MDF shape cover it with brown plastic parcel tape then lay up one layer of wet carbon cloth with resin, ensure you get it completely wet.
Then I used some clear film to cover it (it could be done with melamine or ali polished) this is then clamped onto the top of the carbon. When the
cover is removed that is the front of the dash you will see and should be flat, smooth and shinny. The 19mm roll was included into the lay-up with
the cloth being cut and layered so as not to be too obtrusive. The roll will not have a good Finnish and will have excess resin run over it, keep
brushing the excess off it as the top part is squeezed down. When set and removed lay up additional laminates on the underside to give it strength,
lightly rub down the 19mm roll and then to finish either polish the curved bit or used some spray varnish.
The roll will not be hidden but will be at the lower edge and in the shadows from the rest of the car. If you want a slight compromise then this will
work, if you want perfect then you will have to make a mold capable of accepting a fair deal of pressure.
I will place some photos in my archive soon.

Nick,
thanks for the guide, though having never done any work with composites whatsoever I think it might be somewhat foolish for me to spend my money on
materials and attempt to do this myself. thanks for the info though..
