Metal off cuts wanted

Please help…

I am helping to start up a greenpower racing team at school. The idea is to build and race an electric car.

http://www.greenpower.co.uk/about/

Our budget as always with school projects at a state comprehensive school is the vast sum of £0 ( up against mainly private schools )

Looking for any short or long off cuts of steel chassis tube and ally panelling.

Can collect in Nottinghamshire area ..

Sorry not able to extend to beer tokens

Paul

Ps any technical help or ideas very welcome…

That sounds like a fun projcet for the kids and you as well. You wiould be as well to go around some of the industrail units and see what they have in the off cuts bin, after asking of course. i went to a fire door company a while back and came aways with a sheet of 6 x 4 steel which has been reallly helpful.

Depending how keen the kids are, what about getting them to hold a fundraiser to raise some cash to but any bits you can't pilfer elsewhere? Lets them be imaginative at the same time?

Regards Chris

Hi Paul.
I've got some heavy cable that could be of use to you.
And some small offcuts of Aluminium honeycomb.
I'm ten minutes from Ravenshead.

Geoff.

hi, i used to be apart of the bexley business academy team (non-private) but a very competitive set of cars. we regularly where in the top 10 and finished first second and third a few times.

over the 5 years i was their, we learnt that weight saving is better than aerodynamics, to have no wings or any aero parts. also we only used 1 wheel drive and kept the chassis as light as possible. also we trained the younger years to drive as they where lighter and older years as the mechanics...

we ended up with 4 cars, but the very first and original one was still one of the best, its reliability won it for us...

good luck
