Sandwich
Hi All,
I had this idea of trimming the interior,
but still leaving the chassis visible; sort
of infill each triangle formed by the diagonal braces.
Clad with vinyl, over 4mm soft foam, on
16mm firm foam on a piece of ?????? to
hold it in shape. (see pic)
Best thing I can think of is 3mm plywood
but I'm concerned that if it gets wet it will
warp and delaminate.
Any ideas chaps ?

Like the idea, instead of plywood why don't you use a piece of 1.2mm aluminium sheet ? Or you could seal the plywood with acrylic varnish before
you glue the material to it. I have a bath side panel made of MDF we shaped painted the panel then sealed it with 4 coats of acrylic varnish, no
problems with water destroying the MDF even after 12 months. Buy the stuff from B+Q.
Also to get two photos in one post, I paste them all into Powerpoint them save them as a single .jpg file

To get two images in one post you use BBCode tags. The image ones look like this:
[img] [/img]
All you do is put the web address of the image between the tags.
eg.
[img]http://www.chris.renney.dsl.pipex.com/images/chassis_images/chassis026.jpg[/img]

fozzie has done something similar to what you are suggesting. the car is ali side panelled with vinal on the inside of the ali witht he chassis still
visibile. its a nice job.

There wouldn't be a problem if you used exterior or even better marine grade ply, or even "Medite" the stuff they build LocUsts out
of.

I like the look of that. Looks a bit different from the 100s of black interiors out there (mine included).

GMTBH:- I like the 1.2 ali, stretch the vinyl over the sandwich & stick it down on the back with......... d/s carpet tape ???
Chris G:- Never come across "medite". I also like the idea of marine ply. Can you get it as thin as 3mm ?
As for you Zetec:- "Makeover's on Sky"? I smell bull***t
And Chris R:- May I compliment you on being such a handsome fine fellow, and you look so young. Do you use "Oil of Ugly"?

Not at the moment, but at least i'm not gonna have problems finding seats to fit. Reaching the pedals may be a problem though.

Spray adhesive is much cheaper. A thin film over the aluminium panel and on the foam or whatever you are sticking it to. You'll probably do the
whole interior and still have some left over.

I used marine ply covered in vinyl for all of my interior (theres a lot of interior) Only used half a tin of spray adhesive. Gives you a few chances
to get it right when you get an unwanted crease too.

along the same lines, if the inside was left un covered and with no "wedges" filling the chassis voids would the edhes of the chassis
rails contravene the SVA internal edge radii rules?

Carpet places sell it, also B&Q, Focus, Homebase sort of places. There all pretty much the same I guess, essentially Evo stick in an aerosol.

Type, it may be something to consider though! unless you can make the wedges so that you can not get the sphere onto the corner of the tube.
