Are gear lever extensions any good?

Hi all

I am not sure how far back I can get the Zetec into the chassis, I wondered if any one had fitted one of these and had any opinions/ experience?

WESTFIELD CATERHAM 7 DAX LOCOST GEARLEVER EXTENSION | eBay

Hi,

I recently bought an extension and quick shift from Ebay, it works but the change is not as good as it should be, I also had problems with the support shaft welding failing, which I have repaired.

There was a recent blogg on this forum regarding the issues with poor gear selection from gear extensions, it was mentioned that the unit supplied from Westfield was the best.

Hope this helps

Regards David

Have a look at David Jenkins website , it shows how to make one complete with quickshift that could easily be modified to alter the distance that it moves the gear lever backwards . I made mine from a few bits out of the scrap bin and fitted a new saddle for the selector shaft for the grand total of £0.92 , works a treat with a nice positive change. IIRC someone posted a link to Davids site in the last few days
