hi all,
I have a 16 gauge steel floor welded on my spaceframe. Is it ok as far as sva is concerned to mount my seats directly to the floor???
cheers

it might get thru SVA but i wouldnt call it safe. The drilled holes make weak spots. I would weld two simple bars across the floor, and bolt the seat
to this. If your seatbelts touch the seat i would suspect a definate fail, as in these cases the seat is assessed for strength too. (apparently)

Joel, when you say simple bars do you mean flat stock of box section?

Are you talking about fixed seats, or seats on runners?
If the seats are fixed and hard against the rear bulkhead then they ain't going anywhere in an accident!
If you're talking about seats on runners then some reinforcement under the floor is a very good idea.

I'm 6' 3" so was gonna go with thin bench seats. Was kinda hoping it'd be ok to bolt them to the floor.

well, at least the floor is fully welded. If you do end up drilling holes straight thru the floor, i would recommend welding a washer arouund each, to
reduce the chance of it busting. i used a pair of inch square 16g tube under each seat, to mount the runners on. whatever works though.

Mine's not. I know it's excessive, but it's 3mm alu. It's gonna be riveted. The alu was free and it makes up the rear
bulk-head too.
