'Book' Seats

Has anyone ever bothered to make the seats as shown in the haynes book?

Laser cut, folded and welded steel or aluminium - kinda like a budget version of the Kirkey items. just wondered what the result was like? No mention of thickness in the book. Do we think 2mm alu would be stiff enough?

Rorty recommends 2.5mm for his (which I suspect were an inspiration for the Haynes ones).
