Flooring for a Fat B@$tard

Hi,

I am about to put my flooring in and wanted some thoughts on the material to use.

I am trying to keep it as lightweight as possible but have serious concerns at the ability of 2-3mm ali to not deflect & fail when stepped on given the rail spacings that it will be riveted to. I am 17 stone so want to base any material on this basis.

Also do most of you go for flat sheet or chequer plate?

I'd be inclined to put some extra support for the seat mounts so that the weight isn't being totally carried by the floor sheet.

On my car I welded a couple of 1" x 5mm strips across from the side rails to the tunnel at floor level to mount the seat runners onto. These don't raise the seat much and only add a little weight, this arrangement has given no problems in several years of use now...

I've got 2mm ali floor and the seat frame (flatplate in kind of a H shape) really helps stop the floor distorting.
I'm pretty heavy too

Going to go down this route as well. I like it and cant think it will add too much weight given the benefit of putting it in now. Just waiting for the seat fixings from the manufacturer before i weld in place.

2mm for the floor.

I plan to panel out the external walls of the cockpit as well as the tunnel in ali. Is this bedt done in 1mm or thicker? Also is the back panel to the cockpit done in 1mm or 2mm?

Cheers for the help chaps.

Since when was a sporty 17 stone deemed portly! Std chequer plate floor on good chassis with plenty of rivets should be fine. Structural stuff like seats on correct supports will be great. Worry not, soon you will be sitting in your great steed and making brum brum noises in private!
