Harnesses seem too long and hard to adjust...
Hi guys,
I currently have some 4 point, 3" black Caterham harnesses, and they seems a little too long everywhere.
For example, the shoulder straps on pax side can be tightened right to the max, and still not enough for passenger, I appreciate my pax seat is as
rearward as it can be, but still not great for my pax not to be tight.
Also, when sat in the seat, not sure if it's the awkward length, or the seats, or just the way it is, but trying to adjust the lap belt whilst
sat in the seat is also nigh impossible, as the 'tightening' buckle/ mechanism falls through the side holes, and then it's hard to
pull tight...
I presume someone has had this before? Do I just need shorter harnesses? Simple as that?

Schroth harnesses come with a harness fittings which allow you to alter the length of each section of belt via a special way of wrapping the belt
through the fittings. They also have adjusters which pull away from the central buckle for the lap belts rather than pull up from the anchor point.
Both of these things are what I needed in a belt for the Phoenix and maybe it is what you need as well.

Might be that where the shoulder straps attach to the chassis, is too close to the seat or too high up, can you unclip it and see anywhere lower down
that it could be mounted?

jeffw yet again you're one of the first to reply and über helpful, cheers chap.
Both of what you've described sounds like exactly what I need to cure both problems.
The lap belt adjustment certainly sounds great.
Dave, the shoulder mounting points on the chassis are just the standard on most kits.
For my shoulder straps to be the correct length for adjustment on a big and small passenger, theyd have to be mounted on the rear clam lol

Having seen Jeffs car his belts look very good (on his sparkly Triton seats ). I am planning to upgrade my belts soon but it needs some chassis
welding done first so not an easy job going from current 3 point to 4 point fixings
I have not used these people but they get good reviews http://www.primamotorsport.com/prima_motorsport_products/kit_car/kit_car_harness.html
One of the options is for a 'reverse tighten' which is what you need in a seven type car They are half the price of Schroth and again
from what others have said on various forums 'custom' lengths are no issue to them.

Bloody cheek...they are Tillett seats, don't you know.
I should have said there are other providers of safetly belts apart form Schroth, some of which are considerably cheaper. Schroth are the only ones,
to my knowledge, which have this 'wrapped' harness hardware which allows you to radicaly alter the length of the belts.

opps....should check what I type before I hit post.....I know they are Tillett and I am making plans to break in and swap them for my JK seats (which
are still very nice for the money) when you are not looking
I agree that the wrapped harness is clever though just in my case I am too tight to pay for that when if I wait a little longer I can get 'made
to measure' Maybe the OP is not as tight as me

Try these guys Securon.
They deffo do a pull-up to tighten lap straps which is what you need.
IIRC they also do marque specific belts.
HTH.

Pete, the OP is super tight, so you need not worry about that, I like your thinking lol
Cheers for the replies and suggestions... I can sell on these Caterham ones :-)

I just installed Titon belts in my J15 new build, their standard kit car product. They did not fit, I had to change not only the anchors and belt
length but I made both sides different lengths. The chap at Prima are very good, just tell them what you want. Top marks for Prima.

Thanks for all your replies and experiences chaps...
When I'm asking for a certain length, I presume I'm just measuring from the mounting point, to the buckle, and then they will make them +
/ - so much for larger and smaller people?
Also, pull up to tighten isn't what I want is it, as thats what I currently have, surely I want to have to to pull away from the centre buckle
in order to tighten lap?

The chap at Prima said (assuming you are not a girl) "that is what your tits are for". He told me to measure from the anchor point to your
tit cos that is where the buckle goes. Apparently that is all they need to know. Don't try it on the girl friend.............
