Identification of Dashboard Controls

Right, I'm just looking at getting my dashboard switches labeled, I'm going to engrave some black aluminium strips so it shows through silver

In the iva manual it says

Note 3: Tables A and B are for guidance only any method of identification or colours may be used providing this would cause no confusion to the driver.

Tables a and b are just a list of common controls and there logos and colours

My question is does this mean each switch can be labeled with just text? Ie HORN, FOG etc

Exactly that. As long as another driver could get in and be able to identify them from the seated position then ur fine.

Why does anything have to be labelled for IVA?
as in my tin top, it doesn't have a sign saying "HORN" or "LIGHTS" etc

steve

Thats was probably spelt wrong, or had some grammer, that the "grammer police have to have a moan at

Not words, but it will have standard symbols. Even if some people don't even know what some of them are!

It doesnt, it just needs something that makes it clear. Symbols or words, as long as its blatant.

How do TVRs get away with it?

In them you could be pressing a buttong to start the car, open the door or god knows what!

Firstly type approval gives them flexibility to (unofficialy/improperly) make changes. Also i don't believe things like starting and door controls arent within the scope of controls mentioned in iva.
