Rascal vs MX5

High guys,

ive had some bedford rascal seats for a while (thanks Bob ) and have been planning to bolster them a bit and then cover them but I went to a scrappy yesterday in the search for a saab clutch and came across an mx5 with seats that looked like theyd fit. I managed to get them for £20 and took them back, a bit of fettling later and they were in the chassis. My only problem is that they seem to rise me out of the car slightly so i feel im sitting on it not in it.

Comparing the measurments of the mx5 seats to the cobra 'roadster 7' seats that a lot of people use there isnt much difference. Thats why im putting this post up, do those of you who use the cobra seats find that you are sitting on the car or is it fine? The mx5 seats are def more comfortable and really look the part also with integral speakers in the headrest i can take my mp3 player in the car.

Fin,

My Cobras feel fine. I've tipped them back by fitting a 1" ali spacer under the front- maybe that would help you?

Could you remove some padding from the seat squab? (You may have to do this for SVA anyway).

Like the speakers idea!

Cheers,
James

A lot of mx5 owners take the coversof the seat and cut some of the foam out of the seat bace witch gives a more secured fealing you can drop youer self by about 2 to 3 cm like this.

I have an MX5 and the seats are nice! Even better in leather but not found a cheap pair yet

For SVA you need the seat as low as poss so i would try and remove some padding if you can. The seat covers unzip so it's quite easy to put back. Check out the SVA section on whats required regarding SVA regs on distance between seat base and seat belt anchorage.

Our Cobra7 seats feel fine, and give good visability of the front of the car.
Although after being in a car with bare fiberglass seats before you do feel alot lower in them and it is a bit harder 2 see the front of the car but a simple matter of how you like 2 sit i suppose.

We had to mount ours straight to the floor to pass the SVA, as even with the smallest runners we could find on it failed the seastbelt angle test.
