Looks like I am doing a simlar setup to your self..I have spent the whole bank holiday doing my alternator ..see
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=26868
The standard alternator is often used with diferant brackets.. see http://www.kitcar.hu/jontarry/jontarry.htm

I dont know if this will help you but i had to fit a Micra alternator on a custom bottom bracket for my pinto install.
Bottom custom bracket uses the two horizontal holes in the block that the std cast bracket usually bolts to. Above these are two smaller vertical
tapped holes - a simple L bracket was fitted here so the the std sierra alternator adjustable bracket could bolt in place to get the belt tension. I
need a 900mm belt.

Like Darren W i have just fitted a alternator to my MK Indy which is powered by a Pinto. I tried all types of brackets (westfield, Tiger, L shaped 5mm
bar). then I asked MK.
they told me to drill out the hole on the water pump and use this as the pivot point and use steel tube as a spacer. i used a 838mm belt and i have
plenty of room now and also nice and far from the exaust.
The moral of the story is if in doubt ask kit supplier they are bound to be nice guys and very helpful and they must know someone who has done it
before.
best of luck, the bleeding obvious is always staring you in the face.
