M10 A2 stainless bolts
Are M10 A2 Stainless bolts OK for mounting 4 point harnesses? I ask because I've got a load going spare.

SS bolts are no where near the same strength at 8.8 grade HT steel bolts. I think they have to be mounted with 8.8 grade minimum.

Does the bolt say "A2 70" on the top or another number apart from A2?

Here is a graph comparing SS bolts to other grades: (sorry its a bit small, you should be able to make it out though) Look at the right hand side
(ignor the left). You will see A4-80 bolts are equivalent to 8.8 steel

If your going to SVA your car they need to be 7/16 inch minimum which I think is around 11.1mm.

I would suspect that Mr SVA would be more assured that a stamped up high tensile bolt would put his mind more at ease than an unknown or unmarked
bolt. If I were you I'd go the tried and trusted route.

They actually need to be 11mm minimum, but 7/16 is acceptable

I'v used A4 80 M12
A2 are 304 stainless
A4 are 316 stainless
An A4 80 is not quite as strong as 8.8,
hence I'v uped it to M12 diameter.
I'm hoping this will be OK for sva as I don't want to use steel bolts in my stainless chassis.

the bolts that I have are marked A2.70.
The harnesses cam wih bolts that were 11.6mm OD and with tapped rectangular metal plates for them to golt into. My VortX chassis has M10 threaded
tubes welded to the top of the chassis for seat belt mounting. I'll have to have M10 bolts in those.

hi colin your welded in bosses are 7/16 unf thread not m10

Marc,
You're right. An M10 bolt will go in under light finger pressure but the 7/16 ths bolt supplied with my harnesses will go in once a little
powder coat is trimmed away from the first thread on the tube. I'm glad I asked the question now
