Is early Zetec any good for locost
Hi everyone,
I have possible donor Sierra 2.0L (1988) with early Zetec engine (possibly, not convinced).
Engine is quite high - 65 cm (25.6" )
Does it fit to locost?
Any other problems to foresee?

The Zetec was never fitted to the Sierra. You'll probably have the original DOHC (note two camshafts does NOT mean 16v!) which is about as
useful as a chocolate fireguard.
Real Zetecs can be found in Mondeos and late Escorts/Orions. Going rate is about £100 for an engine and 'box and you can get £30-40 for the
MTX75 that will come with it which covers your ignition system.

Hm, this is most definitely not DOCH, it is OCH as far as I can see.
Bit buzzled now.
Then it should be Zeta?

Anyway, dimensions do not fit to Pinto or CVH.

If it's an OHC engine and it's not a Pinto then it must be a 1.8 CVH. Not a particularly great engine, but perfectly useable.

No, no. It is 2.0 L, so it can not be 1.8 CHV.

Must be a Pinto then surely? Post up a photo and I'm sure we will be able to identify it.
FYI: All zetecs are DOHC 16v

The early Zetec had Zetec on the cam cover, whereas the DOHC has just that on the cam cover, get the engine number and engine code which will help
identify what it is or post a photo.

A few times now i have heard talk of an 8V zetec but i think its just cofusion as its the DOHC thats 8V and as mentioned above Zetecs were never
fitted to Sierras. Having said that, i have also heard talk of a 16V version of the DOHC but never seen one?????????????

You'll need to have a look under the bonnet of mk 5 Escort rs2000.
Failing that they popped them into some granada scorpios if i'm not mistaken.

unfortunately the early zetec did have DOHC on the cam cover (up until '94 i believe) after that it said zetec.
As the engine is from a sierra it is likely to be the 8v DOHC or the 8v pinto.

205 block was also used for some cossies, if the engine has a turbo hanging of the side it should be good for your locost!

Its well proven. Lots of companies have built their kits around this engine, and theres a good selection of tuning parts, so help and advice will be
easy available.
You can always upgrade later on if you want something more exotic.

105bhp for carbed engine, 115bhp for injection. Vast amount of tuning bits available. Downsides are the enormous weight and the tall block. You
will need to cut down the sump, and possibly relocate the oil filler on the cam cover.

I'm sure it will be ok to make a start with,as said earlier you will have to chop the sump unless you can find an ali RS2000 sump also some
people do re-locate the oil filler but it can be possible to get away with it.
