Newbie - Greetings
Ive been mooching around this place and researching for a couple of weeks now so I thought id say hello!
After a few years in autograss and sliding mx5's around the streets I have decided I want to build a BEC locost. Im narrowing my selectuing down
to MNR/MK/Stuart Taylor at the moment, but have plently of working out and saving to do before I purchase a kit next summer.
Does anyone know if the kit manufacturers OI mentioned above will be exhibiting at the autosports show at the NEC 15th Jan?
if not when is the next big kit show?
Cheers All im sure this place will be invlauable over the coming months/ years!!

Hi, and welcome to the forum/mad house.
Doubt the kit people will be exhibiting at Autosport, way too expensive. There was a recent thread in clubs and events with kit car show dates.
Of the one you mentioned I have been most impressed by the MNR kit - really well thought out and Marc and Chris seem to be very helpful. At the end of
the day, all three will produce a good car if you build it right!!

Yep, welcome to the nuthouse You don't mention whereabouts you live. This could have some influence on which kit you ultimately choose.
Personally, I'd recommend the MK cos their's is the best kit by far. OK, so maybe I'm biased but who cares
Take a look at our build & rebuild diaries and see how easy they go together. Then get yourself along to MK Sportscars on just about any Saturday
morning and have a blast in a few. Alternatively wait until early next year and get yourself along to some of the shows and have a good look around.
Like Andy says, none of the kit car manufacturers will have displays at the Autosport show in January. The first major show of the year will be
Stafford on March 11th & 12th.

Welcome
You won't go wrong with an MNR.
Picked my kit at the end of October, and so far so good.
Marc and Chris at MNR are really helpfull, and always at the end of the phone.
Little tip, make sure you've got a heater in the garage.
Steve.

To Be honest all the ones mentioned are erm.. how shall I put this..."Based" on the MK chassis.
And it's cheaper.
Cheers

The quality of the MNR is head and shoulders above the rest though
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Do you have to ask?
Of course, the answer is a matter of opinion. And Maltby (and Harrogate) are both the wrong side of the Pennines for it to be true.

Thanks for the replies lads, im in Huddersfield West Yorks, so equispaced from MNR & MK. I had started to zoom in on an MK , but the MNR looks
like better value as it comes powdercoated & has bespoke rear uprights. I need to do some real checking of the kit contents, but still reckon ill
be looking at £4.5-£5K for everything I need from either supplier (inc doner car & bike)
Im planning on buying a full XR4x4, stripping and selling the bits i dont need on ebay, then doing the same with a salvage fireblade or ZX9R, try and
recover some dosh & keep the costs down.
having said that I want it to be a quality build. Ive got a degree in mechanical engineering ( although im a buyer now) and used to build & race
minis so hopefully it wont be too traumatic. I have no experience with bike engines, but with an A level in electronics i shouldnt have a problem with
the wiring!!
One question for you, can you get a flat scuttle for the MNR, dont like the aeorscreen bubble design at all!

If youve done your research thoroughly you would have also shortlisted Mac#1. Dont rule them out. Very good cars. My shortlist was MK, MNR and Mac#1
based on location and quality of kits (cost was not a consideration as they are all in the same ball park).
My ZR has gone ogether very well indeed. Checkout the new works 9R. By all accounts it is the lightest of all the so-called lightweight becs. Take a
look and make your own mind up. They will al welcome you and are all easily visittable within one day (i did it in half day).

yeah seen the mac 1, but the fibregalss doesnt look too good and the kit is more expensive than the others. However, I will go and have a mooch round
them in the New year, there only in Sheffield.
Cheers for the response.

The kit isnt more expensive its just they are a touch more comprehensive with their listings. I found it is nigh on impossibl to compare all the
manufacturers exactly as their price lists can be a little light in certain areas of pricing.
What do you mean about the fibreglass? Design or quality? take another look. Mine has been far batter than a lot of others and far easier to fit than
some (inc one on your shortlist).
Your decision at the end of the day. Nothing to loose taking a look. Enjoy it and give them all some hell. Try and get yourself a good yuletide
discount.

How much have you factored into your shortlist for customer service?

Don't you just love optimists Buy yourself a welder and build a Locost, you're in the right section Locost related.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

hahah i could build my own chassis ( I say optimistically!) as i have spent many years mig welding and fabricating cars back together. But for the
sake of £3-400 ( it must cost £200 in bar/mig gas/grinding disks/chop saw/jig manufacture etc) id rather get a chassis that i know will go in a
straight line when its built up!!!
For everyones information a few of the kit suppliers will be exhibiting at autosports, Robin hood/ pilgrim/& dax i thing it was. Just got the
latest edition of practical performance car.

Build it yourself you control accurracy and quality, whatever you buy by way of a chassis is built to a commercial cost by someone who may have a deal
of pride in his work but may always have an off day because of a cold or a hangover!

I agree with Caber, having built 2 book Locosts. BTW all chassis drive straight, you just have to turn the steering wheel a bit
