analod or digi
hi all, i havent posted for a while, been doing lots of research and prep work as i pick up my chassis in 5 weeks.
anyways back to my question, ive been looking at what instruments i want to use for my dash but there is such a wide variety of choice i cant make up
my mind. a lot of people are saying that the digidash is a great option to have, its small, light, dititalbut lacks a bit on the looks, where as other
people say that analogs are better as they can see how the car is performing, they look better and so on, so which is it analog or digidash,
comments on pro\'s and con\'s for both please, and your personal opinion is welcome too

Personally I'd have to go with something digital. But then I'm a sci-fi child and analogue just don't float my boat.
Who the f**K tightened this up!

Hi Alex,
I am putting one of these in mine...
http://www.acewell-meter.com/pro4.asp?id1=9
Nice and small, simple and shock/water proof. Oh and about 1/6th the price of a digidash . Fine if you dont want all the data logging etc.

Analogue dials are easier for the brain to register with just a quick glance because it doesn't have to use the bit that processes numeric
characters. A rev counter or speedo needle at half way makes more sense to the brain as a snap judgement that the number 50 or 5000.
Digital speedos seem a bit slow to react to me. I guess needles also lag the correct reading but you just can't tell.

Mine was about £80 delivered from an Acewell dealer on eBay...
Heres the link to his current store items. He has the higher spec ones in as well, just bear in mind the ones with warning lights are for bikes, and
dont have the brake fluid warning light, instead they have the Neutral warning light.

I just got a bog standard one, and am fitting a seperate temp and fuel gauge. My warninglights are a bright6 module which has everything else you need
for SVA. Total gauges/warninglights cost of about £120ish.

I have to say I prefer the look of analogue style dials... the one on the left of the Acewell page seems to have everything in an analogue-ish casing,
though digital speedo.
I think this is the same - various different combinations of warning lights, with/without fuel level, etc.:

The Evodash is a good compromise between analogue & digital IMO

If it helps we've just replaced the original Radical LCD display on a Clubsport in preparation for the GT championship this year at Coombe.
Reasons as above the dials are much easier to glance at and the LCD display was difficult to see bright light.

What is it, a ladies' wristwatch? The Progauges look like they would need some padding to fit them other than in the wheel exempt area.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

no offence, but i've never seen a race car using gauges like these. maybe in a nascar, but not anything in the uk that I've ever seen.
They look more like the 'street racer' look from fast and the furious stereotype imho
cheers,
Ned.

Couldn't have put it better myself. This is why guage with dials and hand rule, not other way about it.
You can argue all you like but the human brain processes pictures faster than letters/number; the latter are only are recent invention in human
evolution.
If you prefer digital, then fine. You will can get additional feature plus supposedly more accurate.

I fitted DD2 pro. Fantastic. Nice clean uncluttered dash. Fully programmable. Very easy to read. Costs a bit more than the locost versions but well
worth it. They now do DD2 lite which doesnt have datalogger and is a lot cheaper. Try ETB website.
Bought mine from Mac#1 - well happy.
