Mine are threaded tubes welded to the chassis with a 'bridge' welded over the top for reinforcement.

Mine are same as Mooky's.

I seem to recall the threaded tubes were available for purchase but cant remember where. Sounds like the type of thing Nick Skidmore would do.

I think my Dad got some from Mac#1 ages ago. Most manufacturers will stock them for when they make their own chassis.

Mine is just a welded nut but it is welded to a 10mm plate. Has to bee solid.

Mr sva made me pull up the carpet to see what they were welded to.

10mm??? isn't that a bit overkill? the book says 3mm...

its much harder to weld 10mm to 1.5mm and have sufficient welding penetration...

The plate was a bit of flat bar that ran across the tunnel. I used these to mount the seats to also.

Overkill perhaps but it was what I had to hand. Nice and stiff to.

I didn't have any problems welding them up and they are still OK. SVA said they were fine too.

The bolts went down throught the plates and the nuts are under the car.

So before i weld them in, is this method given in C.Gibbs' book ok? the old book (Champion's) says to weld triangles against the vertical tubes and this seems stronger...

what is better? i.e. if i do the new format (3mm plates and a nut) will it be ok?

thanks a lot
