Possible Ebay scam?

Just had a call off my brother who received an email off someone about a laptop with a damaged screen my brother is selling on ebay. He said he is willing to pay him £1400 for the laptop plus an extra £100 to ship it to his son! It sounds very tempting but told him to stay clear as it sounded like a scam of some sort. I told him to email ebay and/or paypal about it and see what they say but I was just wondering if anyone on here has had a similar experience?

I assume the laptop is up for sale much less than £1400? Sounds like one of the old Nigerian money transfer scams, I`d keep well clear.

Its a scam.

I've had the same tried on me when I was selling my car. They always offer more, usually its a false cheque or bankers draft.

Stay well clear.

As above - blatantly obvious scam. Next message will be asking for account details to transfer funds to or similar!! Report the member and let Ebay hopefully bloke them

Thats what I'm thinking, money laundering etc. The auction starts at £100. The guy claims to be a marine engineer and he wants to pay £1400 for a knackered laptop?!?!?!

I had the same selling a server - definitely a scam - I reported the person to eBay and they confirmed it was a scam

That's a shame, I've got two he could have had for that price.

Why do they always offer such ridiculously high prices? To see if you're really gullible? It's silly.... £1000 postage. Sounds rather expensive even for parcelforce

Can you post the name of the person who offered you the money? I think I have something similar with a stuffed bird I tried to sell.
