Bolts (yet again!) on harnesses

Hi,

Have a set of Willans harnesses which I want to fit, but am unsure whats going on with the bolts at the top of the harness. The lower mounts have no bolts, so am just going to use normal 8.8 seat belt bolts.

Any ideas whats going on with these?

It almost looks like they're welded? Or am I way off?

TIA

Can't quite tell from the piccys but if they have been welded or subjected to heat they could have been weakened and should be replaced.

This is a safety thing so don't take any chances.

Cheers

Looks like they've been welded on so that the belts can rotate but still remain secure ie. not gripping the belt mounts. I'd just cut them out and replace with proper seat belt botls with the collar on.

Sounds like a plan, I'll have a go at getting them off.

This has probably been asked before, but where's the best place to buy the collars from? I thought I could get some bolts from a scrap yard, but I suppose those might've been weaked on impact, so new ones are probably the best idea.

Anywhere either online or in the West Midlands area? Thanks again

Never bought any myself as they came with my harnesses but try people like Demon Tweaks or some of the rally suppliers etc.

Top mount bolts need to be stamped 8.8 for sure even if it is the "eye" type for a clip in harness - I know min failed as they didnlt have 8.8 on them & I got mine with my harnesses

Damon tweaks do harness eyes.

As said above welded bolts are a no no my inspector even queried the mounts a bit

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at demon tweeks.

The bolts came off eventually after a lot of furious hack-sawing.

I don't have to pass SVA with them, but obviously I'm more interested in safety than the cost

Still open to ideas as to where to buy! Cheers

I may be blind (quite likely) but I can't see anything on demon tweeks!

I'll just be off to the "Wanted" subforum
