CSM release agent

Anyone know of anything to use as a release agent when you haven't got any wax or other propper stuff?
Apart from cling film.
I will be laying onto MDF.
Cheers,
Pat...

Well, proper release agent is PVA.....so failing having some perhaps you could dilute some PVA wood glue...

DISCLAIMER..

Don't blame me if it doesn't work..

like - one is a sticky glue and the other is a very volatile evaporative substance that deposits a 'cling film' like substance.

PVA diluted is used to seal wood - and its absorbed quite well. make sure the surface is really well sealed if you attempt using dilute pva glue.

the word glue puts me off

Pat,

I used an mix of engine oil and vaseline (engine oil to thin the grease) - very sparingly (basically so it stains the wood), on all moulds I made.

They were usually a combo of MDF, ally sheet and plaster of paris.

Like Alan says, try a bit for yourself, before blaming me

Hi there, I am type 907's son home for christmas from uni, Before uni I was a prototype modelmaker for seven years and have done a bit of molding in my time.
Iam now studying car design, (its a hard life)

As far as release agents are concerned if you want to use something that you might have at home, try a light smearing of vasaline or a build up of bee's wax furniture polish which you can buff to a great finish.

saying that, test the two ideas first and see which works best for you.

Hope this has been some help.
