sva fail beverley

Hi , had my sva on thursday morning 8am at beverley.
everything was going really well up until the headlight alignment test then things started to go wrong from there. the tester was really good and seemed to want the car to pass but i failed on the following points,
1, headlight dipped beam pattern was wrong and main beam not working correctly
2, speedo was out only reading 9mph when he was doing 30mph
3, steering shaft at an excessive angle where it meets the rack

ran out of time trying to sort it so had to come away with the fail, got home and unloaded the car so we had a look at the lights and figured out i had connected the dipped beam to the main beam and main beam to dipped beam, 2 minutes later the wires were swopped and that was that sorted.
next was the speedo to sort i have a digi dash fitted and the sensor is wheel mounted turns out the figures i was inputing were for prop mounted sensors a few minutes later the correct figure was typed in and the speedo was reading right.
So all i have to sort now is the steering shaft angle when it meets the rack, the tester suggested making up some tapered shims to go under the rack mounting brackets to angle the rack slightly, or move the rose joint supporting the shaft, hopefully this will be sorted this weekend and i can book a retest next week.
i felt a little disappointed as it would of been a first time pass had i wired up the lights correct and programmed the dash correctly, as the tester said the steering angle was right on the limit but had it only been that he would have let it go through.
At least i know it will pass on the retest though

i would recommend beverley test centre as the tester was very helpful throughout.

Thanks Antony

Yes it is a good fail, i had about a 3 week wait from sending the forms off.
what engine you got as he seemed to prefer car engines over bike engines as one of his first comments was "its nice to see a car with a car engine"

Cheers antony

pinto, same as mine, it took 3 attempts to get through emissions and that was with standard carb fitted, first reading was 5.7% but managed to get it down to below2%, i think the limit is 3.5%
have you got proof of engine age from ford as he will ask for it.

cheers
