Surrey Dave - 15/3/11 at 11:48 PM

Did I hear someone say "if you want to look a tit get a BRA"?

JZR , TriKing - both Morgan Lookalikes

Have they just launched a real Morgan? ,probably not Locost though!

Pembleton ?

The Lomax is still available too.

hughpinder - 16/3/11 at 08:11 AM

pembleton?
Now they can take motoguzzi or bmw air cooled bike engines, the performance is pretty good!

I've got quite a soft spot for the Pembleton cars, they really look the part and the kit is very well priced. I'm not sure what definition of "space frame" they are using though I suppose it sounds better than "Ladder frame with some lightweight tubes to support the body"

matty h - 16/3/11 at 06:00 PM

Not into the old school strange hat type trikes more into modern looking 2 seater reverse trikes.

coozer - 16/3/11 at 06:08 PM

B.R.A. seconded, they look the best IMO.

scootz - 16/3/11 at 06:22 PM

Not a UK design, but if it's just for inspiration you could do a lot worse than check out the 'Scorpion'...

Campagna T-Rex if you have £30K spare

matty h - 17/3/11 at 08:16 PM

Some of them are a bit pricey is there no one selling cheap and cheerful reverse trikes.

designer - 17/3/11 at 11:06 PM

I see no reason, but there are no cheap trikes, and I've talked to them all, included the US one. The best one, I think, is the T-Rod

PSpirine - 17/3/11 at 11:16 PM

Does anybody have some more info on the Pembleton? What's included in the bargain-priced kit?

I'd be well keen for one if they're so straightforward and single donor (i'd just use a 2cv). Definitely appeal to me as a cheapie project

Don't forget the blackjack zero.....

scootz - 28/3/11 at 02:45 PM

The only thing stalling me from diving further-in is the tipping issue.

The more I read - the more it worries me! Mind you - the internet is full of 'expert' accounts which are actually based on big-fat nothings!

I knew it was possible to put it on edge if you were accelerating full-beans from into a corner, but I didn't realise that it could also tip if you went into a corner at too hot a constant speed.

You could cater for this on a track, but I wouldn't fancy trying to ease off the throttle mid-corner in a three-wheeler that's on edge!

David Jenkins - 28/3/11 at 03:44 PM

I remember seeing Morgan 3-wheelers on TV, racing at some British circuit. Going like stink, and hanging the tail out on some corners - no sign of tipping.

scootz - 29/3/11 at 06:32 AM

The Morgans are front-engined and front-wheel drive... they have completely different driving characteristics.

The original Morgan trikes were RWD with a chain to the rear wheel.

Correct - those were the ones I was talking about... it was a Classics race, and the Morgans were beating everything else in their class by a mile.

You can see the chain under one of the cars in this photo:

Mind you, I thought they used to have drive-shafts - but looking at this page they had both drive-shaft AND chain!

Plus a few videos...
Hill climb
Dyno!

Bloomin eck David... I didn't realise you were going back to steam-powered trikes of the 1640's!

Those things will be lucky to have a single foal-power and would struggle to tip an unladen wheelbarrow onto one side!

I'm talking about fire-breathing modern sports-bike engines with 170+bhp riding on a set of sticky tyres (not wooden wagon-wheels)!

Look even less strong in reality. I can only imagine the rivetted on aluminium is structural.

If you look at the dyno video, you'll see one giving 56 BHP, capable of 100mph! They weigh three-fifths of very little (but I would want to be in a crash while driving one... )

Afterthought: I should add that any driver who takes one of these onto a race track and drives it at 100mph (as I have seen) must have spheroids of steel - they never had good brakes (drums all round), plus being wide and short they had an exciting habit of pulling to one side or the other randomly whenever they tried to stop fast!

The Venom Project - 6/5/11 at 02:02 PM

I have been out in this trike, I can tell you that apart from the only other reverse Trike I have been out in (MEV TR1Ke) there is nothing to touch the power and handling of the T-Rex, but I guess this is why you are paying $60K for it, it defo turns heads, as does the much more affordable TR1KE by MEV, of which I have finally placed my order for. The Campagna Trike is powerded by the Kawasaki ZZR1400 engine, its an utter beast on acceleration and handling, the monster 335 rear tyre looks after any issues with handling. The MEV TR1KE is a fantastic fun bit of kit and for the price its a steal. Once you sort a suitable R1 donor, you can literally get one on the road between £6000 - £8000 and for that you have a vehicle that is radical and gives a 0-70MPH in around 4 secs.

I wasn't sure about the TR1KE at first, until I took a spin in it last August, then it was the only thing I wanted

I hope to have mine built this year and registered for all the kit car events next year.

I can see why, thats parts from a raleigh burner on the front end isn't it?

Kwik - 4/7/11 at 07:10 PM

the indycycle is the best looking in my opinion, you build it from plans, looks cheap and simple too.

my biggest problem with cars or trikes putting wings on the front is that they’re too high, because of speed bumps, and in my opinion you can very easily ruin the look of them.

this doesnt have any so i think it looks a lot nicer...

Blackjack Zero or Avion

madflow - 6/10/11 at 05:42 PM

new to this --wanted to build a seven style but with a differant body --but thats another time --didnt think there would be this on the site ---excellant --i was looking at something like these awhile back and never really liked the one wheel up front--promiced her i would never build another car--never said anything about a trike though!--will be scouring the sites now and off down to the bike breakers.---cheers
