i'm building a trike for a mate of mine that fell off his bike and dosnt want it anymore but like the trike idea.

can you ride a trike on a bike licence?

can you ride a trike with just a car licence?

You used to be able to ride a trike on a car license, not sure if that is still the case, but you can ride one on a bike license.

Cheers

many thanks rollie

Why a Trike?

A Trike can be ridden legally in the uk using your car licence (or bike licence)

A motorcycle test is not necessary to ride a Trike of unlimited capacity

Yep a trike is (unless it's changed, e.g. different classes on newer licenses) ridable on motorcycle licenses - and reliant robin's et al class as trikes too.

I know because years ago my dad had a company car, and since he only had a motorcycle license, it was a reliant robin

Whats the story with wearing helmets on Trikes in the UK?

People keep sayin different things

as far as i'm aware you don't need to wear a helmet for trikes but its probably a good idea to.
slight thread hijack coming up....
Whats the situation with trikes and the SVA, i know they used to be exempt but has this changed?
Cheers.

If they are radically different from the donor bike they require MSVA. Here's a description but if it uses most of the old bike frame and just has two wheels stuck on the back it may be exempt.

Thanks pete, i was thinking about those pretty little Morgan replica's, how the hell do you get one of them through SVA with all those engine bits out front?
