Type 2 , 3 or E. Type 9 has 3 bolts securing the gear lever, that one looks like a large nylon nut?

Have a look in the Burton catalog or on their website (I think) It shows all the identifing features of Ford gearboxes.
It looks like a type 2 if its got a integral bell housing

Definitely not a type 9. It's difficult to say without seeing a good side view, but my money would be on it being a type E.

I have a couple of type 3 boxes in the garage (as defined by Burton power) but one has the escort style screw in gear lever and the other has 3 bolt fixing, believed to be from a lotus cortina.
I pulled a Mk 3 Cortina Haynes out of the library just last week to read up on them to learn that old Mr Haynes calls boxes type C and type D and from looking at pics what is in pic in first post is the type C from a Mk3 Cortina [closely related, if not seperated at birth] from Burtons type 3
Hope this doesn't add too much to the confusion!

Cant be 100% sure but it looks very very much like my type 5 I would almost put money on it. 99.9% sure it is though.

If the output shaft spline is the same as a Type 9 then it's a Type E (by Burtons terminology).

My lotus elan 2+2 had the screw in lever
as i remeber it coming off in my hand on the way to college

It could of been the same day that i had a total brake failure,

detachable bellhousing, holes in ally section before gear lever, screw in gear lever = (to me) same one I had. People thought mine was a type E (and desirable) it was 'only' a type '3' due to the holes in ally section. Note this has its mounting a few inches closer to the bellhousing than a type 9.

So, lots of versions of the truth, who's right?
