Tracing Crossflow engine

Hi guys I have a 1600 xflow in my kitcar and want to trace the engine, ie which car or year it's from, does anyone know how to do this. Cheers

You can Date it on the Burton power website

Must have read my engine umber wrong as I seem to have a number that doesn't match, it's 691M 6015BA will have to check again. Thanks for help.

Casting date on block behind alternator ..?

The number you quoteis a casting number
You need to find the Engine number which is stamped on a flat bit
It will have 2 letters first which are interpreted using the Burtons Ford age chart
As for where it came from, Cortina MK2 through Escorts to Fiesta and I believe a derivative in the Ka

Thats the block part number - Pre 1971 1600 from a MK2 Cortina or Mk1 Capri

Fiesta's are 761m and front drive only - no RH engine mount pads
Ka engines are HCS and totally different

Look down on the engine from the exhaust side.
Just under the exhaust for number 1 cylinder, at the front of the block where the head sits on it, is a little cast 'bump out' that usually has a machined flat surface on top. This is about 2" long and 1/2" wide.

On this you should find 2 letters and a number (5 or 6 digits maybe?) - for example, "AB12345" - this is the engine number.

I tried to find a picture of mine, but failed...
