New project - GERT
For a while now I've been thinking about a new project. It's not a CEC or a BEC, but a GERT. I've now started to collect some parts
and got planning. Can you guess what it yet?

is the TK getting some kind of engine upgrade? 
i'm only assuming T means truck, maybe, but haven't got a clue about the rest...

The TK wouldn't move with this engine in it  One cylinder of the TK is more than this whole engine lol

clunky, I have several similar 1 cyclinder engines for dump trucks and mixers and they are crude, but saying that simply never fail to start even
after forgetting to check the oil. Always something very satisfying in hand starting these little engines too
What's the max RPM? ususally they are very limited and designed to run in a narrow RPM window

I suppose really I should finish my kit car first, and I am doing that at the same time as this, and I'm welding up the amazon too. I like
having lots of projects on at the same time (even if I have v little spare time) If I get bored/fed up/annoyed with one there's always another
I'll be interested in working on, so when I do get spare time I always make the best of it

certainly tonnes of torque, you might find you just don't go very fast
flat out these engine almost shake themselves to bits, might be worth getting it balanced or doing it yourself though over reving it might simply snap
a conrod or the crank

Originally I was thinking of using a single cylinder but that would have struggled up hills. This lombardini has a few more horse power than an Aixam
(4 seater with a 2 cylinder derv engine) which weighs 400kg, i'm going for as light and aerodynamic as possible, will be significantly less than
400kg. Oh and as for going fast, I'm not going for speed but economy, 55mph will do fine!
I can't find any sketches at the moment as I did them on envelopes and can't find them, might have another doodle soon

I don't know what yours is but I Have just bought a lister CS engine. 6 HP 650 revs per min, they tell me it will run on anything oily, rape
seed vegy ,chip oil derv.
It is only slightly heavier than a Pinto

we have an engine thats much more simple and crude than them modern listers ect. I cant remember what make it is but its about 80 years old and will
probably run on owt that slightly flamable ( wet farts, petrol ect). Its green, has two 18" flywheels and fires about twice a second. Beat that
for low rpm torque!

A friend of mine had an Aixam. It used the same Kubota diesel engine as the fridge units that you see on chiller lorry trailers. It would manage 70mph
with a tail wind but it was governed and if you took the governor off I bet you could get more out of it. It was a bit of a stretch of the imagination
to call it a 4 seater though

I'm stripping my engine at the moment and i'm trying to work out what engine & transmission arrangement to go for:
- Front engine, FWD chain driven gearbox, chain driven diff
- Front engine, FWD car gearbox
- Front engine, FWD motorbike gearbox with shaft output to a diff
- Front engine, RWD gearbox and prop to rear wheel shaft driven wheel (e.g. BMW)
- Rear engine, RWD chain driven gearbox, chain driven wheel
- Rear engine, RWD motorbike gearbox with shaft output to shaft driven wheel (Ural, BMW)
- Rear engine, RWD, CVT
Trying to save weight so car gearbox is out and rear wheel drive won't need 2 driveshafts, trying to be as efficient as possible so shaft driven
is out due to transmission loses and CVT is out. RWD with chain driven gearbox and wheel seems simplist, lightest and most efficient. or am I
massively wrong?

Have a look at the Ultima gearboxes from the usa. Quite cheap. Isn't Flak using one.

I've seen those on quite a few diesel bikes, they look good but £250 before shipping & taxes is a bit too much

chap has used a big 70's generator engine, about the same output as mine but weighs in at 125kg (about 45kg more than my lombardini), the
flywheel alone weighed 35kg before it was lightened. I'm thinking of lightening my flywheel, I've not had chance to weigh it yet but I
think it weighs at least 20kg.
