I started of with a sony Alpha a200 which I have since upgraded to a Sony Alpha A580. The A200 is a good starter for one and plentiful supplky of
lenses I have pondered about selling it but never bothered just think of it as a back up in case the unthinkable happens. I would advise that any you
get try and pick up a battery grip as this gives you extended battery time and a more comfortable means of holding the camera in portrait
orientation.

I would look on ebay for a canon EOS 400D body (or 450D if your budget extends that far).
Buy lenses as your budget allows. Once you decide photography is for you, sell the 400D on and buy a more expensive canon,.... can keep the lens
collection...

Thats was my idea with the Sony Range. Ive ended up noe with a minolta100 - 300 a tamron 70 - 300 a Sigma 18 - 200 a sigma 28- 70 f2.8 and the
standard prime lense. My upgrade was based aorund lens mounts and other accesories ie the battery grip as this also fitted the new A580.

IMHO, I would either go with Canon or nikon (shudder)... there is a reason most pros have canon/nikon gear....
