Mondeo boot

Hi Folks

Does anyone have a new style ford mondeo. I have just bought a 2002 lx model and you can only open the boot by using the remote key or by pushing the button in the car. You can't open it by hand.

is this meant to be like this or is my boot latch knackered.

Thanks

I have a 2002 Zetec model and boot can be open manually. The button on the boot operates a solenoid rather than a mechanical linkage.

I assume LX & Zetec models will have same mechanism.

Thats what I thought, but when I push the button nothing happens. Oh well looks like a trip to the garage.

Thanks.

It may have been deliberatly disconnected to prevent boot jacking whilst stationary

The other train of thought is disconnecting the cockpit boot release as we do, to prevent theft from the boot by breaking a window and pushing the button

Nothings safe these days

It should work from inside when the ignition is off,if its not working i suspect it would be the same mechanism as any other for over the last 5yrs and so like my fords be prone to a bad earth.

I was told once by a Ford dealer to give the hinges on the tailgate a good clout with a hammer onto a chisel, although a tad scared i gave it a go and low and behold it works. The hinge is evidently the earthing point and suffers from time to time.

You're lucky you get a button on the back

My Omega boot can only be opened from the remote key fob or the button on the dash.

Not only that but if you pull up and want to open the boot, you have to switch the ignition off AND remove the key from the column.

Frustrating when you're dropping someone off....
