Yup..

i have been caught short a few times that would have meant getting out and struggling to push it uphill backwards...

and the whine isnt bad, the exhaust more than drowns it out.. as for oil leaks, wot oil leaks... speak to Marc...

I don't miss having one! I quite like the fast that I push into parking spaces when needed. More than often I'll park so I can drive out forwards anyway.

Only slight pain (and it's outweighed by the cost, weight ) factor is pushing KC back into the car port...which has been cleverly designed not wide enough to get into.

Ditch it I say! Spend the money on making the car yet lighter still!

In conclusion I vote for the monster raving loony party.

There has only ever been one time in the last three years, when I noticed a lack of reverse gear and for a split second wished I had one. I was driving alone and took a wrong turn down a one way street. Having reached the end, I needed to do a three point turn in front of quite a few bystanders and didn't relish the thought of having to get out and push, so I reached out of the car, put my hand on the road and with quite a bit of effort managed to push myself far enough back to complete the manoeuvre.

The strain on my face would have been quite amusing but fortunately I had my helmet on and kept the visor down.

if you do need to turn round quickly and you are not shy or retiring

apply full lock in either right or left hand

apply 10,000 rpm

dump clutch

= 180 degree turn

easy done and you have saved £700.00 on a weight gaining reverse box.
spend the money you have saved on beer and carbon fibre bits to make your car even lighter

never found the lack of reverse a problem don't normally go out in it to park and when i do as has been said just apply a bit of planning - no prob

My concern would be how to get back to my garage which has a long (50m) driveway and the end slopes downwards to the garage. If I go forward towards the garage, I won't be able to push the car out. If I want to reverse into the garage, I have to push it backwards all the way and somehow brake it when on the slope... Not sure. I wouldn't want a reverse, but I am also hesitationg now...

I don't have one and only once have needed one. I drive forwards into my garage and push it out backwards. It just so happens that this is slightly down hill. I rarely use car parks and in any case most allow you to drive through to the next isle. I often park facing up hill if I can.

The only time I needed a reverse was on a narrow lane that had a ford. In the end, I just went through the water.

Rig up an electric reverse that you can take in and out of the drivetrain. No loss of power, no shakes and rattles and if you're really clever you could make it so the throttle pedal operates the speed (of the electric motor) when reverse is engaged. It'd just be like a "real" car then!

As an aside though and kind of on topic... has anyone had any experience of Quaife's all in one chain driven diff? I believe that has a reverse gear built in too.

I'm finishing my electric reverse wich works just like in the normal car.

its true that its a couple of KG but hey
for daily use **ck those kG not?

it just means the driver weighs to much when talking abut weight..

I've got one and I use it all the time getting the car in/out of the garage.

It all depends on the type of driveway /garage layout that you have.

Having said that, I have had to use it on more than one occasion when out and about, expecially when in town.

Personally I could't live without one.....

I think most of it depends upon your driveway. I have no problems warming mine up on the drive then pushing it back onto the road. Those with sloping drives may have trouble though. It's also probably one of those things that you get used to. Pushing is easy, but if you have one then you'll get used to driving backwards.

Not needed in my experience TBH. Only once have I had need for one, and that was on a single track road up in Scotland. I just a sat there until the very confused tourist gave up and reversed back to the passing place!

As most other people have found out you can easily spin them or push them if you have got yourself in a spot. Most of the time you can drive round it!
