SPA design vs. Demon tweeks quick release steering boss
Blackbird - 20/3/09 at 05:25 AM

Does anyone have experiencewith both and can share?
I like Sparco quick release but it's pretty expensive, I heard the SPA piece is very good the guy at Demon tweek recommends their own line.
I'm a little lost here...

Thanks in advance!

Of course the Demon Tweek guy would reccomend his own one. He want to make a sale.
A locostbuilder will no doubt be along soon to say which is really best

I've got a splined Spa quick release on my steering wheel.

It works very well, no slop and easy to fit/take-off. It looks cool and I like the extra security. The only downside is it can be a pain to look after the steering wheel when you're away from the car.

The splined section comes as a slug of material that you have to weld to the top of the column. Any reasonably competent welder can do the job.

Thanks for the replies.
Does anyone have any experience with the Demon Tweeks piece?

I have heard a lot of good things about the SPA quick release, just trying to compare notes.

BTW, does the SPA piece have a key in the splines that allows the wheel to go only one way?

Yes it does.

speedyxjs -
I was talking about purchasing either from demon tweeks so it's probably worth it to the guy just as much.

The demon tweeks piece looks pretty much identical to the SPA piece.
I called DT an asked if it has a key and it does, than I asked the guy another question about the SPA piece and he said that they are no longer carrying them... WTF?!
They are still FS on the website!
He then continued and said that the DT piece is made by "the same people",which I'm guess means that it's a knock off.
That does explain the identical look other than the color.

I'm a bit puzzled here.
Is he pulling my leg here or what?
The DT does have an edge on the price though.

Just wantedto give you guys a follow up on the quick release.

I ended up buying the DT unit and received it a couple days ago (I bought a Sparco steering wheel at the same time and it was on back order forever).

The DT quick release is an excellent piece.
Very tight fit, no play at all, has a key to make sure that the wheel goes on only in one position.

I like it!
