Recently in Vic (Australia) our 'beloved' state based road authority changed the emissions rules for ICV's overnight with no consultation, evidence or warning. (ICV - independently constructed vehicles, which clubman's fall in).

These new emission laws are based on the IM240 test with very strict limits, and very costly (estimates of between $500 to $2000 per emissions test).

We are trying to get this changed because many of use with builds and plans for future builds fear that these limits are completely unachievable. We are currently thrying to thrash out an action plan to try and resolve this issue.

The question I have is.
What is done in the UK for emissions?
Do you think it is fair and easily achievable??

Could you please let me know the exact details of the testing.
What I would like to do is, if it is favorable, propose it as a alternative method. Cause just complaining about wont change anything, to solve this issue we must be constructive.

Aus used to be a nice place to go. Now it sounds like they are disappearing up their own asses like a politicians heaven.

22,306,749 is not a lot of people for the land mass you live on so how are these funny laws creeping in....

Requirements are based on the engine age at IVA / registration. So if you fit a modent engine you need efi and a cat, or can get away with carbs on an older engine.

A lot of people deliberately build with an old engine so ongoing MOT emmissions tests are easier.

Seems fair and doesn't cause any major problems for most people.

Under what circumstances are the emissions measured?
Dyno? revs? drive cycle?

is there somewhere where the test procedures are written?

Revs - a fast idle and normal idle, for modern engines doing a cat test. The exact regs are in the IVA manual contained in the fixed thread above.
