I have been busy making the trailing rods and now I have assembled the rear suspension for the first time!

I'm just a little worried about the positioning of the rear shock top mount, its not on the chassis drawings and i only have a few vague photo's to go on. Anyway, i have positioned it as best as i can, its as high up as i can get it without twisting the shock. I have calculated the ride height now and it looks like i'll have about 5 1/2 inches ride height at the rear, is that normal? That would leave about 30mm travel on the shcok before hitting the stop.

How high are your cars at the rear?

I would be very worried by 30mm shock travel.

IIRC the GTS locost shocks have 3" stroke anyway with a 10.5" ride height for the shock, so if you take those dimensions you should be able to work out the chassis ride height.

on 'normal' live axle cars the shock is mounted on the bottom of the 3mm plate.

I've heard it said that the shock also needs to be rose jointed to take into acount the left / right & front / back movements.

If your axle moves in that many planes you are in trouble. When you put a spring on that it's going to lift it, have you got room to put a nut on there with the bracket in that position, don't tack it as it is or you'll never get the damper out

It wouldn't be possible to put it under the top plate because i would have to put serious pressure on the damper to twist it forward enough.
The bracket is already tacked on and the shock does go in and out easily, i checked that! And there is loads of space for the nuts.

The stroke on these shocks (from GTS sized for the dedion) is 60mm when you take into acount the rubber donut, so i was working on the theory that normal ride hide should be mid-stroke, 30mm.

So at mid-stroke i would have a calculated ride height of 5 1/2 inches. I realise everything changes once the weight of the car is on it and springs are fitted, but mid stroke will still be in the same place and the spring base should adjust to bring the car to this level.

What is normal ride height though? Is 5 1/2 inches low enough, or too low?

From pic's that i have seen the GTS chassis does have the brackets welded sideways like this rather than on the top plate, does anyone have a good close-up pic of this though, i could so with seeing some more detail.
