Google's new free DNS servers.

This slipped under the radar on the run up to xmas Google are now running DNS servers free for public use. The DNS server IP addresses are nice and easy to remember 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4, just the job if your ISP's DNS servers are a bit iffy and sometimes stop you browsing the web.

The servers seem fast and reliable and are ideal if you don't really trust Open DNS

It's an amazing business model. If you buy in they know the content of every email, every web page and every search you do. With Buzz they know what you are saying on social networking. With apps they know the documents you write. With domains they know who is visiting you. They know the pics you upload and so on with all their other features.

I am not paranoid but it's a lot of information that can be cross referenced for whatever purpose they decide.

I presume you are talking about the entire range of Google service e.g. GMail rather than just their free DNS?

The one I wouldn't trust is Open DNS

If you don't trust google and openDNS's non compliant pile of crap annoys you, Try these.

4.2.2.3
4.2.2.4
4.2.2.5

Owned by (IIRC) verizon, but IME pretty fast and extremely reliable.
