Grandsons Xbox 360 is not working and shows 3 red rings
Can these be fixed, or binned and get a new one

Check manufacturing date, it could still be valid for a microsoft repair for free.
Failing that, yes they are repairable either DIY or send off.
Don't bin it.
sent mine off to xbox, service was really quick!
just give them a ring and give the serial number and they'll tell you if it's in warranty.
have a look at

www.ifixit.com which will show you how easy or difficult it may be to fix.

I believe they will fix the red ring issue even if out of warranty, but only if the case hasn't been opened.

Check with microsoft first
I have had two xbox's go with this problem and I have fixed them both with a kit bought from ebay (about 3 quid). It's something to do with
the way the heatsinks are fitted to the processors (assuming this is the problem you have, it might not be but I doubt it). However each fix gave me
about 6 months extra play time and then they went again. After muching repairing I just traded in my games and controllers and managed to get a Xbox
elite for £50 quid at games station. Apparently the younger the xbox the less chance it'll have this problem.
My advice would be to have ago at the heatsink repair option as its cheap but remember your on borrowed time until it happens again. This is my
experience of xbox's but some people report after the heatsink repair everything is fine.
Mine was repaired out of warranty by Microsoft and in double quick time, without hassle and returned with Microsoft points card as well.

It Can be repaired no problem. Try Microsoft for warranty, I have fixed a couple, while the repair kits on eBay using washers/screws for the 2
heatsinks do work, that is not the best solution, as the fault will come back to haunt you (and cause damage to the CPU & GPU mounting pins). The
best solution is to remove the main board and find someone who will reflow the board for you (using an IR reflow oven not a crude heatgun method!)
This melts and reflows the solder on the delicate pins on the underside of the processors. The one I did with a repair kit lasted 4 months, the others
I had the boards reflowed have been done 18 months+ and still going strong.

it can be repaired free if upto 5 year old. Unless its been openned or MOD'ed.
If its older just bin it. i have had 2 RROD and fixed both. one lasted 2 days other lasted 3 months. either way not worth the fix.
