Hi Guys
Here is the build thread for my 2.3 Turbo Saab powered Tiger Super 6!
Right there will be lots of pictures so any questions ask away!
I brought the car for £1700 odd, it originally came with a 2.0XE lump but as I had never heard it run and it looked a little ropey I decided to get a
new lump, which was the point I was told be a friend that the Saab lump mated upto my gearbox! Result!
So here we go…
A few pics when I got it:
Quite a few bits missing but for the price I guess I cannot moan!
So made a start replacing all the alloy panelling with plastic and fitting lines etc, oh and repairing the mangled bodywork whilst filling the
holes….
Then after this was sorted I took delivery of my donor!
A Saab 9000 Griffin 2.3 FPT with a mear 132,000! 2 Lady owners full history, all for £460 and I sold my XE and carbs for £320 so only cost £140,
result!
So lets see if it will fit…..
Hmmm
Needs some work then…
Had lots of problems:
Water pump to big
Alt to big
Sump to low
Quite major problems…
But will the gearbox fit?
Hell yhear! Lol
Modified water pump, the hose outlet is where the pully used to be lol..
The alt was to big so I used a Punto Mk2 alt in reverse.
I drilled and tapped the original power steering holes to take M12 rod.
Engine mounts
I used the standard left hand mount on the chassis
Right hand mount was the original Saab mount with a 8mm plate welded to the chassis which was then right angled to support the weight
Top mount/support
All mounted!
Gave the box a clean
Spigot bearing for a manta
Right next up fuel tank!
The Saab pump 8” into the tank which is the same depth as mine!
Sooo…
Made some baffles
One Saab pump/sender!
Prop/box fitted
Suspension on..
Next up wiring….. lol
looking good keep up the good work

Bit of a Saab freak myself....
That motor will make you big power if you want it.
Whats the sump / ground clearance like ?
Looking good,
blimey, you did all that in 1 day
Looking good, what gearbox is it?
Good thread ,keep it up.
What are the dimensions for the saab engine with all the bits attached?
looks good!
what power is the saab lump making and what gearbox is that ? is it a straight swap?
thanks mike
be careful with the boost that saab lump, it will rip a gtrag to pieces in about 3seconds on full boost. i suggest you look out for an omega f28 box
as they are much much stronger. or take yours to bgh and get it beefed up.
my mate did the same on a mk2 escort and we couldn't believe how quick the gearbox imploded.
Good work. I look forward to seing this one progress

Hi everyone!
Bit of an update, lots been done, however it don’t seem that way…
Anyway I have now dry sumped it for less than £100!
A few pics
Bottom bracket for dry sump pump, picks up on old pwer steering mounts.
I was originally a 3 stage pump, and was driven by a toothed belt, so I had the shafts shorted so it is now only single staged and is driven by a
ribbed belt.
Before I put the pump togther
Sump shortend and welded up
Pick up for pump
Now this bit I was very lucky!
I am using the original oil pump to feed the engine but the oil pick up is part of the sump so I welded up the hole and put a fitting on the outside
and that is the feed into the engine! What a result!
I did however make a mistake!
It seems dry sump pumps run slower than the engine RPM, however I had no way of using a bigger pulley on my pump due to clearance so I had to drive
everything at the same speed
I have ran the engine and there is a constant amount of oil so it seems ok!
Bottom dry sump pump mount on
A few pics of the other bits.
The dry sump tank is in 2 parts the squareish tank is the separation chamber and the oil drops into another tank in the foot well which feeds the
engine.
A few mods for the pedals
Wiring up next, using Fiat coupe 20V Turbo dials
Looking good and a lot of hard work involved but sure it will be worth it when it's done. Would be nice to see some pics of the Mk2 Uno Turbo i can see lurking in the background. My Mk1 is my prized possession.

ive seen the Uno and it is very nice indeed, if i remember rightly it has been stripped inside and there was a shiney stanless fuel tank where the
rear seats should be . if i could afford it i would buy it.

for a horrible moment I thought you were selling it.....
thats coming along canny, I like how you got round the sump issue -
Nice job, I'm putting the 2ltr into a GBS Zero, don't think I'd bother again, the Saab engines are a pain in the ****!
Any more details on that water pump replacement, is it an EWP electric one?
Oh and I have a mk1 Uno Turbo awaiting resto! Its been waiting for 6 yrs, one day it'll get its turn...
