Paint vs. powder coating
ethomas - 21/10/05 at 04:40 PM

Hi,

I have a pair of tubular manifolds for my V6, and am debating whether to go for exhaust paint or powder coating.

The cost of powder coating is about £40, is it a worthwhile upgrade over a painted finish?

Cheers,

Ed

Will powder coating take the heat?

IMHO power coatimg (and plastic coating) will not stand the temperature. You need stove enamalling (sp?) or VHT paint.
I prefer paint because it is easy to recoat if you need to modify/repair stuff.

I had a supposedly heat resistant powder coated exhaust manifold once. On the first "proper" run it all burnt off!

powercoating will burnt off, as its basically plastic!

Ceramic is good Expensive though! http://www.camcoat.u-net.com/Exhausts.htm

Go for a good quality wrap instead. Looks good & helps gas flow.
