Tuned Pinto - spark plug advice
Shamrock GS - 25/8/07 at 03:44 PM

Need some advice on the correct plugs for my car. Engine came from a Tiger Super 6 but no plugs came with it - would standard pinto do or do I need something else?

Pinto 2 litre. Burton Stage 2 unleaded head ,BF30 Burton cam, Light Flywheel Electronic Ignition,Twin Weber 40DCOE Carbs ,Short Inlet Manifold.

Thanks

Gary

From what I remember there isn't a great range of plugs to choose from with an 18mm thread. NGK part no AP6FS for standard AP7FS for fast road and AP8FS for race . It was possible to fit an adaptor to take 10mm plugs that are available in a bigger range.

I'm running NGK AP7FS with a fully balanced 2.2 pinto, with Emerald Phase 4 cam, Emerald M3D ignition, Twin 45's etc. Works nicely.

Yep, as has been said, AP7FS should do you nicely.

A lot of the old school ford pinto boys are using the converter rings so that they can use bike plugs. Pinto plugs really are not that good at all and as you are experiencing, you have little choice over temp range. Bike plugs on the other hand are much better. Having said that, I am very successfully running my pinto turbo with 7's but the thing I found was that because it is forced induction, the plug gaps need to be spot on. currently mine are set at 0.5mm.
