It Runs!
Finally got my car started today. Wheeled it outside for the first time since september, filled it with water and petrol. Stemmed 2 small fuel leaks
and a leaky top hose joint. Turned the ignition on, pressed the button and a few pops and bangs and finally it came to life. Ignition timing was miles
out, so there were loads of backfires. Soon solved the problem and its now running fairly well if a little on the rich side. Just need to set up the
idle mixtures then assess it a bit further. Mind you its now ticking over at 1000rpm and running pretty smoothly considering it hasnt had the strobe
or anything on it yet.
I do have a video, but its a bit big to upload on the dreaded dial up (66Mb!). Suffice to say the exhaust is no longer silver in colour....
It runs a little on the hot side, need to have the fan running constantly when its up to temp, then it stays at a nice steady 80deg according to the
gauge. Had a bit of trouble with fuel leaking from the bores of the carbs for some time, however this now seems to have stopped after a few small
tweaks.

mhhh
ignition isvery important to BHP and to tempertures..
especially when spark is to late the exhaust valves suffer hard.
In a engine the valves glow red...

Thanks
I was rather suprised it started as easily as it did, and was prepared for a day of faffing around, thankfully I didnt need it.
TKS if you ready my post properly you will notice I said I havent set it up properly yet, all I was doing was getting it to run reasonably well so I
can get a strobe on it to set it up properly.
Had the rocker cover off today and reset all of the valve clearances. Currently the timing is set to 12deg BTDC static. I know my cam needs more than
that, but it seems to run OK set up like that at the moment...
Tomorrow is time to bolt the exhaust mount to the chassis and fit the exhaust properly. Broke one of the damn clips yesterday though, will have to
find another one... I also need to measure up for my alternator pulley as I have mounted the std alternator further back so it clears the chassis.
Going to turn up a new pulley this week. (Before anyone says anything I had a temporary belt driving the water pump when i had it running...)
Finished wrapping the front section of the loom today, and have clipped 90% of it in.
This week will see the appearance of the rest of the underbonnet panels and the completion of the car mecahnically and electrically hopefully.

Fantastic news David. Im well chuffed for you. Its is a great moment. The car seems to be going pretty much to plan. Its a rel credit to you. I know
how well you have planned it and the attention to detail you are putting in. This is probs the reason why it started so easily.
Well done.
