CNC mill?
anyone on here, in scotland (west/glasgow pref) got a cnc mill? my mate's after a edge lit perspex sign, i've got the perspex, but no
mill, never mind a CNC one
he wants his band logo on it, thought cnc would be the easiest way of doing it.
any ideas?

You could just mask the letters out on perspex and then etch it (e.g. sand blasted) to get the letters to light up. Or make a wooden template and use
a router to cut the letters out.

ah, awesome idea! i don't have a sand/grit blast gun, but i want one anyway, so that would work really well.
is t-cut safe on perspex? will need to try and polish the perspex up a bit before, and maybe after.
would a router not try and route out the wooden template too?

Not sure about T cut (try it!) I have used brasso before...
You could try a getting a sign writer to make the "mask" before sand blasting if you go that way... I would do a test peace first thought
(sign writer's off-cut??)..

You either use a collar that fixes to the bottom of the router around the cutting bit to guide the router through the template (means template has to
be made larger as collar has to be larger than cutting bit) or use the type of router bit that has a small ball race mounted on it and is designed for
following templates or trimming laminate down etc.
TCut does work as a plastic polish, used it lots of times, but proper acrylic polish works a lot better.

ah, cool, might go and have a look at routers tomorrow. i guess homebase must have some really cheap (almost disposable) ones.
i remember using perspex at school, and the 'burnishing fluid' i think it was called, smelled the same as t-cut.
i did this today quickly to show him how it works
i think i might need to get those little dots out of it. they aren't very deep so thinking t-cut them out (VERY fine wet and dry too maybe?)
then cut out the bands name, then polish again

i';ll have a look. nearest one's about 30 miles away though, but they should have some. i got a jig saw from them last year for £10 or
something, not bad for the money, its done the job, and so i'll just bin it if it breaks
does it come with various cutting bits?
