R1 motor information?
Hey all! Just wondering about the pros and cons of the 1998 - 2005 R1 motors? I know the '05 one is a very different kettle of fish and
wouldn't even attempt an install with one at the mo...
But what year did it change over to fuel injection?
What year did all the new emissions laws come in for? I know there's the one for pre 95 and cats and all that. But people have mentioned that
even later motors would qualify for even more stringent emissions. Just wondering when that would be?
Are there any good websites about the various changes made over the years and tech info on the R1 motor?
Any help'd be much appreciated!
Chris.

1998 to 2001 are carb'ed engines
2002/2003 are fuel injected
2004 are fuel injected too but have more power with less torque - the engine is more angled - don't think anybody has used one in Uk in a car
yet..
not too sure about emissions rules.....

I can only point you towards http://www.r1-forum.com its American (and it shows) But there is a goldmine of knowledge about the R1 and its engine
there. (although not specifically for car use)
BTW the 04 and 05 models should be the same. Yamaha changes every other year 98, 00, 02, 04 so the next change ought to be 06
