MX5 engine clearance
Just set my chassis up at 150mm. but the MX5 sump seems a lot lower to get the engine under the bonnet cover, so the question is: chopped sump or dry
sump? any idea's?

What are you building? Whose chassis may help us understand/picture what you have?
Can you fit a bonnet scoop?
I'm building a Haynes with Mx5 1.8 and haven't altered the engine at all

Going back into the shed to have a good measure and maybe a dry run/fit. It appears the MX5 inlet "plenum" is well and truly to high, but,
it could be me panicking Hope to have it jigged up and will photo it at the same time. Chassis is hybrid Saturn Haynes jobbie, have downloaded
all the information now. Hope that will throw some light onto it.

I have the 1.6 MX5/Eunos engine and 5 speed gearbox in my Stuart Taylor/Aries chassis.
I currently manage without a bonnet bulge (although that may change) and I have done some modification of the engine.
Have a read of THIS LOCOSTBUILDERS THREAD

many thanks Jag, that is my way of thinking. I also did that with a pinto sump, full length etc. May copy your full length idea. I did look at dry
sumping it, but it would be taking a flyer, so to speak.

Hi
I have a haynes with an mx5 1.6 engine and the sump sticks out below the chassie by about 25mm and it's never hit the road or speed bumps. I had
the suspension set up at procomp and they set the ride hieght so the bottom wishbones are parallel with the ground.
I've been told that if the sump is chopped down the sump volume needs to be maintianed by increasing the width this is to allow the oil volume
to be maitained so there is enough to prevent starvation, this advice was from an mx5 race engine builder Basset down balencing.
