No BMW here

I saw this sign in the back of an immaculate old Mini last night...

"Guaranteed 100% free of BMW components"

The current 'mini' is not 100% BMW though, most of the body panels are made by ford.

There's a mini near me with a sticker that says "I'd rather push my mini than drive a BMW", made me chuckle

From the times i've been in a BMW mini I can only fault them on one thing, which is they have the same name as a classic car dateing from the 50's which has a lot of nostalgia attached to them.

The BMW Mini will never reach the status the Real Mini has....40 odd yrs of heritage needs to be earned not bought.
I don't doubt they drive ok and are quick but that isn't the point..... Real Mini's are a complete laugh at only 60mph round the twisties...modern stuff needs to be going faster to get same buzz.

That will really upset Steve

The bmw MINI is not a Mini, it is just a very good smallish car. A mini should be very small - I always thought that was what mini referred to anyway, it's a bit like calling a knee length skirt a miniskirt, you just wouldn't. Also, why does it have to shout it's name all the time?

well, I could say :

You will still be able to buy a new beemer in a month or so.

And the manufacturer will be around to honor the warranty. The administrators have already said that warrantys will not be honored.

And wasnt the 75 designed under BMW?

If you want to brag about BRITISH performance 'rovers' you might need to go back as far as the Maestro Turbo...

Generally BMW's are good. (my god did I just say that?) I have had one - it was sh!te... but then everyone picks a bad one (don't they?) at least once in their life. The new MINI is an adequate small car - which bears little or no resemblance to the original. I have driven the new Cooper S, it is a great car. Shame they overheat so readily as reviewers comment upon.

I am however an advocate of improvements to all cars and most manufacturers would do well by striving to attain BMW's quality in both build and material. The latest design's are loosing some of the pizzaz, but that may well be just me getting older.

Each to their own I say....

Whingers...

That's not a fault, merely an homage to the original S, which boils in a queue as well

I've driven the new Mini's back to back with my 1275 GT, there is no comparison. The New MINI is a comfortable modern motor, no squeaks, rattles, buzzes or soul...

Cheers, Ted

My grandfarther always used to by bought british, usually longbridge (only recently changed to another brand/country). The first thing he did with a new car was set about it with loads of foam off cuts. If there was any sqeaks, buzzes or a rattles they where soon delt with.

Pitty they never did that at logbridge.

Well said Steve. I miss mine a lot. ive had 7 older Beemers, everyone great. 535 sport was good. 1996 M3 Evo was just absolutely awesome. New job with co. car forced sale. Hence building a se7en to get the adrenalin rush back and allow some track experience. I looked for a while to try and find a kit based on E30 325.

When my Mondeo dies (heap os sh1t IMHO that it is - V6 Ghia X new shape) id love to get my hands on a 530D. I love the new shape (a bit of controversy for you LOL).
