Drivers foot bulkhead flexing
just a heads up to all you GTS builders out there,
I fitted my Master cylindr last night and ance its all bolted up etc i grabbed hold of it and gave it a wiggle about and the drivers foot well
bulkhead was flexing like mad!
I dont recall anyone having specific problems in this area with a GTS come SVA time, but i have heard of other cars failing due to excessive bulkhead
flex under brake testing.
I will be putting another additional piece of plate in the bulkhead as i dont want to have that as an SVA fail.
Might be worth all you builders just checking yours for flex too.
I reckon it will flex just under normal braking let alone panic braking!

Likewise my GTS panther bulkhead is a prewelded solid sheet of steel and don't budge - pic in archive

I don't know what your footwell looks like but I made the same mistake on my car. I just welded another 3/4 box across the plate that holds my
cylinders. They are solidly fixed now.

My GTS W7DE was supplied with a 16swg ally plate for the footwell bulkhead!! 
Anyway, I replaced it with a nice strong 3mm steel plate. Ain't no way that suckers coming off now. If you were supplied with an ally plate like
mine I would strongly advise welding in a steel plate.
I phoned Darren with my concerns about the ally and he said "It should be ok". So, from that I read "Not one GTS car has been
SVA'd with that setup"

Its a Panther and it is obviously missing the cross member above the master cylinder 
its very very flimsy without it.
I dont have any photos at the moment, may post one later this evening.
looks like more paint to remove now

If you are going to weld in a cross-member, it's worthwhile welding in some tubing for the throttle and clutch cables at the same time (Like
Calvinx's setup). Just to save some time.
That's if you haven't got them already? It seems as if everyones chassis is different!

The Mk has an extra plate welded in to stop any flexing ! you'd never budge it

never thought you were starting a war just pointing out the facts, anyone reading your posting might be put off buying an Mk the chassis thats 5yards
from me at the moment has the extra plate maybe the chassis you saw was a very early example

i think the very early mk chassis didnt have the extra thick plate
