Diff question

Anyone recognise this diff? not seen the rear mountings before....

Is it a 7 or 7.5"?

Cheers

It doesn't look like a sierra diff
Those rear mounts look like a bit solid!

its similar but different to a sierra one, id guess its a bigger ford, maybe a scorpio? Says 2 litre auto on it, which is a common engine/box in the scorpios.

im pretty sure its a scorpio, usually come in 4.27 ratio. would be usable if mounts were made specifically for it. theres a guy selling them on ebay for £150 bin.

Ah so it's probably a 7.5" which is not so good cos the case will be much bigger than my 7". I like the sound of 4.27 ratio though, the acceleration would be awesome

umm acceleration would in theory be awesome, but in practise it would mean you'd have to change gear more, meaning you lose the added speed you would be gaining. its a kind of 1 step forward 2 steps back kinda thing.....

depends on the track, i suspect that a 4,27 would be well suited to hillclimbing. Im sure mark knows how to bang it through gears fast

It's a late bug-eye scorp 7.5". Identical to a normal 7.5 except for the rear cover as far as i'm aware, and yeah they do come in some low low ratios.

Mark, What motor are you running as the rev range and power will dictate how fast you have to grab the gear level..

I am currently running a 4.6 and previously had a 5.3...

Thanks Joel, I have on occasion been known to get gearchanges right!

I was running a 3.62 but the 3.92 made a noticable diffence to my times.

As far as I know 3.92 was the lowest ratio ford made as standard. I know I can get specialist 4.1 and 4.4 CW/P sets but the price is staggering - And you have to fit them!

Andrew, I am running a pinto with V6 type 9 box. I guess you are running an escort axle so you can get those ratios.

Cheers

Mark
