Fitting Earth Clamps to 15mm Copper

Just going to fit some earth clamps (10mm cable) ,notice on a website that they advise using crimp connections on the cable and then screw to cable clamps.

Is it OK to just strip the cable and wrap the cable round and clamp it?

Hi

Depending on the clamp you might find it too big to wrap around the screw, I open the strands to make a fork, and put 4 strands oneside the screw 3 the other

ok

So there is no requirement to have crimped connections?

It would pass an inspection?

Cable can come lose it twisted and clamped. I would always use a crtmp of solder lug if possible.

no requirement that i know of. However, there are many in the regs - do you have a copy of the on site guide, assuming we're talking domestic electrics?

The ones I've used have a bar with a screw through it. You unloosen screw, push bared wire through either side and tighten up again so the bar traps the wire. That's how they are designed.

Those look about as good as twisting the wire around the pipe and covering it with PVC!

I have used the easy bond clips, and they are very good, (IMHO), once clamped tight around the pipe you cant shift them. Remember to scrape any paint from the pipe, (if its been painted). HTH Ray
