brakes sticking on

brakes stuck on the other day. front only, pedal rock hard, sat for 15 mins, let them cool down, and they slowly freed off, been ok since. did it once before when getting towed, thought i was just asking too much of them then. wilwood masters and calipers, and a bias bar. any ideas? cheers!

Is your brake pedal coming all the way back? The master cylinder's piston has a hole that lets brake fluid back into the reservoir, but if the pedal doesn't come back far enough then pressure can't be released.

On my master cylinder, the front and back have their own relief hole - maybe the front one isn't quite getting back enough?

If it happens again, try hooking your toe under the pedal and pulling back...

I had the same thing, it was dirt in the return hole in master cylinder. You will have to look very hard as it is tiny, hope this helps kev.

As above Master cylinder piston isn't comming far enough back, --- could be due to maladjustment of the pedal or the mushroom end of the push rod is too big.

With Girling & Lockheed pattern mastercylinders, the cylinder bore connectionto the fluid resevoir is shut off by a valve rather than a port, if the piston dosen't come right back the tension of the internal spring hold the valve shut.

cheers. tried pulling pedal back at the time, no joy, so could be dirt - poor car's only been washed twice in 1500 miles. same sort of conditions it was built in...
